Pro-ACT® Philosophy

Pro-ACT®, a program for professionals who work with individuals whose behavioral challenges sometimes manifest in assault, was originally developed more than 35 years ago. In the intervening years Pro-ACT® has been in continual development, working to ensure the rights of all persons and to address the ever-changing legal, clinical, and social environments in which we provide care. While Pro-ACT® works diligently to maintain a current awareness of treatment protocols and respond with curricular changes, it has remained steadfast in its commitment to safety, diginty and respect for all persons. That commitment is evidenced in the following list of beliefs.

  • Respect client rights and the need for a non-coercive environment;
  • Minimize the risks associated with emergency response to assaultive behavior;
  • Emphasize the role of supervision of employee behavior;
  • Encourage strongly worded and strictly enforced policies;
  • Promote regular in-service training;
  • Support continuous upgrading of skills and knowledge;
  • Be free of gender bias;
  • Emphasize team skills;
  • Provide experience in problem solving.
